.Restricts Use of ‘Oro Kingdom’ Title
An Ilorin High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the Oloro of Oro District, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye, alongside John Olalekan Adefila, Ismael Abiodun Aribidesi, and their agents from going ahead with the planned Oro Day 2025 celebration.
In his ruling, delivered on Monday, November 24, 2025, Hon. Justice M. AbdulGafar, bars the group from issuing or promoting any publicity material titled “Oro Day 2025/First Coronation Anniversary” across Facebook or any other social media platforms until the motion on notice filed by the Oro Community is heard and determined.
According to court documents, the injunction follows concerns raised by segments of the Oro Community, who approached the court to halt preparations for the event pending the resolution of disagreements surrounding traditional titles, representation, and claims to the “Oro Kingdom” designation.
Court grants substituted service after alleged evasion
In a related development, the same court granted an application permitting substituted service and issuance of FORM 48 on the Oloro of Oro District after what was described as persistent evasion of formal court notices.
The substituted service order allows the Oro Community to deliver court processes through alternative legally recognised means, ensuring the respondents are properly notified despite earlier difficulties.
Monarch ordered to stop using ‘Oro Kingdom’ on official symbols
Further deepening the legal tussle, the High Court issued a clear directive ordering Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye to immediately stop using the title “Oro Kingdom” on all official insignia and representations.
The restriction includes: Royal seals, honorary titles awarded under the disputed designation, community signposts, administrative materials and any official or allied titles involving towns under the Oro District
The court held that the usage of “Oro Kingdom” pending the determination of the substantive suit could create confusion, misrepresentation, or administrative conflict within the district.
