A new executive committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), State Information Chapel, has assumed office with a charge to promote unity, professionalism and dedicated service.
Members elected the new officials during the chapel’s election at the NUJ Press Centre in Lokoja.
Leaders Urged to Serve Selflessly
Kogi State NUJ Treasurer, Comrade Sunny Adebija, presided over the election and urged the new executives to embrace teamwork and tolerance.
He said effective leadership requires sacrifice and collective responsibility.
Adebija advised the new chairman to adopt a servant leadership style and carry every member along.
He congratulated the new executives and wished them a successful tenure.
Fanwo Commended
Acting Secretary of the Kogi NUJ, Dr Atuluku Samuel, described leadership as a responsibility that demands diligence and integrity.
He urged the new executives to remain faithful in discharging their duties.
Samuel also praised the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, for creating a conducive working environment for information officers.
He said the commissioner’s commitment had helped reposition the ministry and encouraged him to sustain the momentum.
Samuel reminded members that the NUJ remains the umbrella body for journalists and urged them to uphold its values.
He also called on politicians to emulate the union’s peaceful electoral process to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
Chairman Promises Inclusive Leadership
The new Chairman of the chapel, Solomon Musa, thanked members for the confidence reposed in the executive.
He pledged to lead with transparency, fairness and dedication while prioritising members’ welfare.
Musa said the success of the administration would depend on the cooperation of all members.
He urged journalists to remain united, uphold professional ethics and promote responsible journalism.
The chairman also promised an open-door policy and programmes that would strengthen professional development, improve members’ welfare and foster harmony within the chapel.
He reaffirmed the executive’s commitment to building a vibrant Information Chapel that would contribute meaningfully to the growth of journalism.

Other elected officials are Olajumoke Ajani (Vice Chairman), Gloria Ojochogu Amodu (Secretary), Salau Ibrahim (Treasurer), Abah Benjamin Eneojoh (Auditor) and Mariam Teni Adams (Financial Secretary).
