The governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, announced on Thursday that the state has already selected pre-qualified contractors for the project, which will be distributed among the state’s 21 local government areas. Seven new facilities will be cited in communities that did not previously have access to healthcare. Ododo also noted that funding for the rehabilitation of the PHCs has been secured by the state government.
By the state health ministry and its donor partners in Lokoja, Governor Ododo reiterated the administration’s resolve to resurrect the state’s health system.
He emphasized that under his leadership, no one in the state should be denied access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare in any way.
Although he acknowledged that “quality healthcare delivery is a multi-dimensional system which depends on joint efforts from Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations,” Ododo also praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in the health sector, citing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his development of infrastructure and human resources as examples.

Prior to this, Dr. AbdulAzeez Adams, the state’s commissioner of health, stated that the government’s commitment to guaranteeing that its residents receive high-quality healthcare throughout the state is demonstrated by the supply of medical supplies and equipment.
He stated that the state’s healthcare delivery system has been revitalized by the government through significant resource investment, and he added that evidence of this investment can be found in the different health sector infrastructure upgrades, which are further strengthened by the cooperation with domestic and international partners and donors to provide medical facilities in the state with supplies and equipment.
He listed all of the tools and supplies needed, saying that they included “4 mobile generators, oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, oxygen cylinders, pulse oxygen meters, flow meters, and nasal cannulas.”
Ododo also approved the provision of two units of 33KVA electricity transformers and generators for the state Cold Chain. These items include X-ray machines, patient monitors, apron and theater scrub, microcentrifuge tubes, intravenous infusions, filter universal pipette tips, surgical gowns, and Public Address Systems for sensitization across the 239 wards in the state. The governor stated that this decision “will ensure proper storage of drugs and medical consumables, thus enabling the state government to procure drugs from manufacturers directly at cheaper rates for distribution to health facilities in the state.”
